Tourist E-visa: 90 days per visit.

45-day visa-free stay: Counts from the date of entry stamped at the border. It covers tourism only and applies regardless of your Luxembourg passport type, under the scheme running from 15 August 2025 to 14 August 2028.
What it does not cover: The visa-free rule does not cover paid work or long-term study. It also does not guarantee a fresh 45 days on every re-entry: this depends on the rules in force at the time.
Need longer or multiple entries: If your trip is longer than 45 days, or you plan several entries, apply for the e-visa before you travel. It covers single or multiple entry for up to 90 days.
Extensions: Visa-free stays generally cannot be extended from inside Vietnam. For other visa types, contact the Vietnam Immigration Department before your permitted stay ends.
Five things to have ready before you start your application, as a Luxembourgish applicant.
Luxembourg passports normally meet the 6-month validity and blank page rule, but check both before you travel, especially if your passport is due for renewal soon.
Same rules as any applicant: straight-on, no glasses, plain background, uploaded as its own file. A standard biometric-style photo from a Luxembourg photo booth or photo shop works.

Will you enter and exit through one of Vietnam's official e-visa airports, land or sea gates?
Is your Luxembourg passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned entry date, with a blank page?

Answer all four
Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.
Before you apply
Check if you even need the e-visa
As a Luxembourg citizen, you can enter visa-free for up to 45 days for tourism. Only apply for the e-visa if your trip is longer, has multiple entries, or is for business.
Pick your entry and exit point
Choose the airport, land or sea gate you will use, since the e-visa only works at the gate you name, and you cannot change it after submitting.
Scan your Luxembourg passport and prepare a photo
Scan the passport data page and take a plain-background digital portrait photo, matching the official specification, before you start the online form.
On the official portal
Fill in the online application
Go to the official National Portal on Immigration, enter your Luxembourg passport details and travel plans exactly as they appear in your passport, and upload your scan and photo.
Pay the e-visa fee by card
Pay online by card in US dollars on the same portal. A standard Luxembourg-issued Visa or Mastercard works. You receive a registration code by email.
After you apply
Check your result
Use your registration code, email and date of birth on the e-visa lookup page to see if your application is approved.
Print your e-visa and complete the pre-arrival declaration
Print the approved e-visa to carry with your passport, and fill in Vietnam's pre-arrival declaration up to 3 days before, or on, arrival.
This declaration applies to every non-Vietnamese traveller arriving by air, including those entering visa-free.

No. Luxembourg citizens can enter Vietnam visa-free for tourism, for up to 45 days, under the scheme running from 15 August 2025 to 14 August 2028.
Apply for Vietnam's e-visa before you travel. It covers single or multiple entry stays of up to 90 days, for purposes the e-visa allows, such as tourism or business.
The visa-free scheme is for tourism. For business visits, apply for the e-visa instead, or check with a Vietnamese embassy if your visit does not fit the e-visa's scope.
Vietnam asks for at least one blank page and 6 months' validity from your entry date, for both visa-free entry and the e-visa. Check this before you travel.
Yes. All non-Vietnamese passport holders arriving by air, including those entering visa-free, must complete Vietnam's pre-arrival declaration and show the QR code to immigration.
Visa-free stays generally cannot be extended from inside the country. If you need more time, you would need to arrange a different visa before your visa-free period ends.
Any of the official airports, land border gates or seaports listed on the e-visa portal, as long as it matches the entry and exit point you named on your application.
No. The e-visa fee is paid in US dollars by card on the official portal, not in euros.

Type C and F sockets are used both at home and in Vietnam, so your own plugs fit — though you may meet the other types too.

Against 230 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.
Pack: nothing special — your type C and F plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Getting around
Cities are dense with motorbike traffic. Cross roads slowly and predictably, use registered taxis or ride-hailing apps, and book trains or flights ahead for longer trips between regions.
Health precautions
Dengue is a year-round risk, so use insect repellent and cover up. Avoid tap water and swimming in untreated fresh water. Check routine vaccines and malaria advice for rural travel with a travel clinic before you go.
Customs and etiquette
Remove your shoes before entering homes and some temples, dress modestly at religious sites, and use both hands to offer or receive money, gifts or business cards.
Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND).

Carry small dong notes
Cash in Vietnamese dong is still standard for street food, markets and small shops. Watch out for the 20,000 and 500,000 notes, which are a similar blue shade.
Cards work in cities
Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and shops in larger cities, and contactless payment is increasingly common.
Use bank ATMs and plan withdrawals
International cards work at ATMs nationwide, but local banks cap withdrawals lower than international ones. Withdraw extra cash before heading to rural areas with fewer ATMs.
