Most travellers
Apply online on the official government portal before you fly. It covers tourism and business trips and is accepted at every listed airport, land and sea entry point.
Diplomats and officials
Under a 2010 agreement, Azerbaijani diplomatic and official (service) passport holders, and accompanying minor family members named in the passport, can enter without a visa for up to 30 days.
Longer stays, other purposes
Work, study or other stays the e-visa does not cover need a visa from a Vietnamese embassy or consulate. There is none in Azerbaijan; the nearest are in Turkey and Kuwait.
Azerbaijan issues more than one type of passport, and Vietnam treats them differently.

Most Azerbaijani travellers use the e-visa, which can be issued for a stay of up to 90 days depending on what you request when applying. Diplomatic and official passport holders instead get a fixed 30-day exemption under a separate agreement.
Tourist E-visa: 90 days per visit.
Arrive 1 March
63 of 90 days
1 Mar – 2 May: 63 of the 90 days this visa allows in one visit.
e-Visa length: Choose single or multiple entry and a stay of up to 90 days when you apply. Your passport must stay valid for the whole visit, and your entry and exit dates are fixed once approved.
Diplomatic or official passport: The 30-day exemption is fixed by treaty. It is not a minimum: you must leave, or hold a different valid visa, before day 30.
What the limit does not mean: The number of days approved is a maximum stay, not a guarantee you can renew it from inside Vietnam. Overstaying can bring fines or affect a future application.
Extensions: E-visa and visa-free stays generally cannot be extended from inside Vietnam. Contact the Immigration Department before your visa expires if you need more time.
Four things to have ready before you start your application, as an Azerbaijani applicant.
Clear colour scan of your ordinary Azerbaijani passport's data page. It must be valid 6+ months from your entry date and have at least one blank visa page.
Straight-on portrait on a plain background, no glasses, uploaded as its own file. A standard 4x6cm passport-style photo works if the scan is clear and recent.
The e-visa fee is charged in US dollars on the portal. Use a Visa or Mastercard enabled for international payments; some AZN-only local cards may be declined.

Dates are fixed once approved, so apply once flights are booked. Azerbaijan has no Vietnamese embassy, so allow extra time if you need a different visa.
Are you travelling for tourism, visiting family, or short business meetings?
Will your passport stay valid for at least 6 months after you enter Vietnam?
Will you enter and exit through one of Vietnam's listed e-visa airports, land crossings or seaports?
Do you hold an ordinary Azerbaijani passport, not a diplomatic or service passport?

Answer all four
Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.
Before you apply
Check you have an ordinary passport and a route in
Confirm your Azerbaijani passport is ordinary (not diplomatic) and valid 6+ months, then pick one of the official airports, land crossings or seaports. Azerbaijan has no Vietnamese embassy, so plan around the e-visa where possible.
Prepare your documents and card
Scan your passport data page, take a digital portrait photo, and have an internationally enabled Visa or Mastercard ready, since the fee is charged in US dollars.
On the official portal
Complete the online application
Go to the official National Portal on Immigration, upload your passport scan and photo, and fill in your travel details, including the exact entry and exit dates and gate.
Pay online by card
Pay in US dollars using your international card. You get a registration code by email to check your result later.
Wait for processing
The Immigration Department reviews the application. Submitting a second one while the first is pending can cause delays.
After you apply
Check your result online
Enter your registration code, email and date of birth on the e-visa lookup page to see if you are approved.
Print your visa
Print the approved e-visa to carry with your passport. Some airlines check this before boarding.
Complete the pre-arrival declaration
Fill in Vietnam's pre-arrival declaration before or on landing and keep the QR code ready to show immigration.
Only diplomatic and official (service) passport holders can, for up to 30 days under a 2010 agreement. Everyone else needs the e-visa or another visa.
No. The nearest Vietnamese embassies are in Turkey and Kuwait. The e-visa lets most Azerbaijani travellers avoid visiting either.
The fee is charged in US dollars on the portal. Use an internationally enabled Visa or Mastercard, since a card limited to domestic AZN payments may be declined.
No. Diplomatic and official passport holders, and their minor family members named in the passport, can enter visa-free for up to 30 days instead.
Up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, depending on what you choose when you apply.
The e-visa does not cover these purposes. Apply at a Vietnamese embassy instead, such as the ones in Turkey or Kuwait.
Any of the airports on Vietnam's official e-visa entry point list. You must use the same one you name on your application.
Yes. Under the exemption agreement, diplomatic and official passport holders posted abroad must register with the host country's foreign ministry.

Getting around
Cities are dense with motorbike traffic. Cross roads slowly and predictably, use registered taxis or ride-hailing apps, and book trains or flights ahead for longer trips between regions.
Health precautions
Dengue is a year-round risk, so use insect repellent and cover up. Avoid tap water and swimming in untreated fresh water. Check routine vaccines and malaria advice for rural travel with a travel clinic before you go.
Customs and etiquette
Remove your shoes before entering homes and some temples, dress modestly at religious sites, and use both hands to offer or receive money, gifts or business cards.
Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND).
₼1 ≈ ₫14,928.9 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old
Carry small dong notes
Cash in Vietnamese dong is still standard for street food, markets and small shops. Watch out for the 20,000 and 500,000 notes, which are a similar blue shade.
Cards work in cities
Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and shops in larger cities, and contactless payment is increasingly common.
Use bank ATMs and plan withdrawals
International cards work at ATMs nationwide, but local banks cap withdrawals lower than international ones. Withdraw extra cash before heading to rural areas with fewer ATMs.
