The 60-day rule, and what it does not mean

The e-VOA allows one entry and a stay of up to 30 days from the date you arrive. Visa-free entry works the same way for eligible passports.

Business trip E-visa: 60 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

42 of 60 days

1 Mar – 11 Apr: 42 of the 60 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • e-VOA: Single entry, up to 30 days from arrival. The e-VOA cannot be extended beyond 30 days on its own.

  • Staying longer: To stay beyond 30 days, apply for a residence permit or a different visa at an immigration office before the current stay expires.

  • Named entry points only: The e-VOA is valid only at the airports, seaports and land crossings on the official list. Arriving elsewhere means a different visa is needed.

  • Overstaying: Overstaying brings a daily fine. An overstay of more than 60 days can lead to detention, deportation or a ban on future travel to Indonesia.

Questions South-Korean travellers actually ask

Yes, for a typical tourist trip you need an e-VOA. Apply online on the official e-Visa website before you fly. It covers up to 30 days from arrival.

Up to 30 days from arrival, single entry. It cannot be extended beyond 30 days on its own. For a longer stay, apply for a residence permit or other visa at an immigration office before the current stay expires.

Up to 14 days before arrival. The government advises finishing at least 48 hours before departure.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. A shorter passport can lead to a refused application or denied boarding.

The official e-Visa portal accepts Mastercard, Visa and JCB cards. The card must have 3D Secure enabled and be open to international transactions. Card issuers may add their own charge.

Only the named airports, seaports and land crossings on the official list. Arriving at any other point means the e-VOA does not apply and a different visa is needed.

A digital form that combines immigration, customs and health declarations. Submit it online within 3 days before arrival. You receive a QR code by email to show at the border.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your South-Korean plug fits. Here's what to expect.

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type F

    Two round pins · 16 A

Type C

Type C and F sockets are used both at home and in Indonesia, so your own plugs fit.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Against 220 V · 60 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.

Pack: nothing special — your type C and F plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Indonesia drives on the left — the opposite of home

Compare traffic side:

Indonesia · left-hand traffic — the opposite of South Korea

  • Getting around

Indonesia is an archipelago, so domestic flights and ferries link the islands, while ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab are the easiest way to get around cities. Traffic in Jakarta and Bali can be heavy, so allow extra time.

  • Health

Tap water is not safe to drink; use bottled or boiled water. Dengue occurs, so use repellent. Malaria risk exists in rural eastern Indonesia, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra, but not Jakarta or Bali's resorts; check with a doctor first.

  • Customs and etiquette

Dress modestly at temples and mosques, and remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. Indonesia is majority Muslim, so be considerate around prayer times and during Ramadan, especially outside Bali.

Indonesian Rupiahs, cash and cards

Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

  • Carry cash outside big cities

Cards are mainly accepted in bigger cities and tourist spots like Jakarta and Bali. Many smaller businesses, warungs and markets are cash only, so keep rupiah on hand.

  • Use ATMs for local currency

ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas. Always choose to be charged in rupiah, not your home currency, to avoid a poor dynamic-conversion rate. Withdrawal limits are often around 2.5-3 million rupiah per transaction.

  • Exchange only at licensed counters

Change cash at banks or licensed money changers, not informal street counters, to avoid short-changing and counterfeit notes.
