The 60-day rule, and what it does not mean

A Saudi visitor on an e-VOA may stay up to 30 days from arrival, on a single entry. The 30 days do not add up across trips.

Business trip E-visa: 60 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

42 of 60 days

1 Mar – 11 Apr: 42 of the 60 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • e-VOA stay: Up to 30 days from the arrival date, single entry. Enter only through a checkpoint on the official list of airports, seaports and land crossings.

  • Extensions: The destination guide says the e-VOA cannot simply be extended beyond its 30 days. Confirm the options with immigration before you travel.

  • Longer stays: To stay longer, apply for a residence permit or another visa at an immigration office before your current stay expires.

  • Each trip: Each entry gets its own 30 days. Days from earlier visits do not carry over.

  • Overstaying: Overstaying brings a daily fine. An overstay of more than 60 days can lead to detention, deportation or a ban on future travel to Indonesia.

Your document checklist

Five things to have ready before you start your application, as a Saudi applicant.

  • Mastercard, Visa or JCB card

3D Secure enabled and open to international transactions. The card need not be in your name.

  • Return or onward ticket

Printed or digital copy of a return or onward ticket. An officer can ask to see it on arrival.

  • All Indonesia Arrival Card

Submit online within 3 days before arrival. Show the QR code with your passport at the border.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Is your passport a regular Saudi national passport, valid at least 6 months after your arrival date?

  2. Will you enter and leave Indonesia through a listed airport, seaport or land crossing?

  3. Is your trip for tourism, a business meeting, a government visit, buying goods or transit?

  4. Will you stay 30 days or fewer on this entry?

Questions Saudi travellers actually ask

Yes, for most trips. Saudi citizens are not on the visa-free list. Most tourist trips can use the e-VOA, which you apply for online before you fly.

Yes. The e-VOA is applied for online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, so you can apply before you travel from Saudi Arabia.

You can apply up to 14 days before travel. Finish at least 48 hours before departure. Applying about 7 days ahead leaves time to resubmit if a document is rejected.

The destination guide says the e-VOA cannot simply be extended. To stay longer, apply to an immigration office for a residence permit or another visa before your stay ends. Confirm the options with immigration before you travel.

No. Each entry gets its own 30 days. Days from earlier trips do not carry over.

Yes. Show a return or onward ticket if asked. An officer can refuse entry without giving a reason, for example if there is no onward ticket.

Any name, number or date that does not match your passport makes the visa invalid. Fees are not refunded. Check every field before you pay.

Overstaying brings a daily fine. An overstay of more than 60 days can lead to detention, deportation or a ban on future travel to Indonesia.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Saudi plug won't fit. Here's what will.

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type F

    Two round pins · 16 A

Type C

Indonesia uses type C and F sockets and your plugs are type G. A G-to-C adapter works for the whole trip.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Against 230 V · 60 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.

Pack: one type C adapter and a small power strip — hotel rooms rarely have more than two sockets.

Indonesia drives on the left — the opposite of home

Compare traffic side:

Indonesia · left-hand traffic — the opposite of Saudi Arabia

  • Getting around

Indonesia is an archipelago, so domestic flights and ferries link the islands, while ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab are the easiest way to get around cities. Traffic in Jakarta and Bali can be heavy, so allow extra time.

  • Health

Tap water is not safe to drink; use bottled or boiled water. Dengue occurs, so use repellent. Malaria risk exists in rural eastern Indonesia, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra, but not Jakarta or Bali's resorts; check with a doctor first.

  • Customs and etiquette

Dress modestly at temples and mosques, and remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. Indonesia is majority Muslim, so be considerate around prayer times and during Ramadan, especially outside Bali.

Indonesian Rupiahs, cash and cards

Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

Rp

SAR1 ≈ Rp4,336.6 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old

  • Carry cash outside big cities

Cards are mainly accepted in bigger cities and tourist spots like Jakarta and Bali. Many smaller businesses, warungs and markets are cash only, so keep rupiah on hand.

  • Use ATMs for local currency

ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas. Always choose to be charged in rupiah, not your home currency, to avoid a poor dynamic-conversion rate. Withdrawal limits are often around 2.5-3 million rupiah per transaction.

  • Exchange only at licensed counters

Change cash at banks or licensed money changers, not informal street counters, to avoid short-changing and counterfeit notes.
