Most Norwegian travellers
Norway is on Indonesia's e-VOA list. Apply online before flying for a single-entry, 30-day stay covering tourism, business meetings, government visits or transit.
Travel document not eligible
Norwegians travelling on an emergency, temporary or alien passport, or who are stateless, cannot use the e-VOA and must apply at an Indonesian embassy or consulate first.

The e-VOA lets Norwegian citizens stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days from arrival, on a single entry. It does not renew itself and does not cover a return visit on the same approval.
E-Visa On Arrival: 30 days per visit.
Arrive 1 March
21 of 30 days
1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.
30 days, one entry: The 30 days start on the day you arrive. Leaving and re-entering Indonesia needs a fresh e-VOA, not a continuation of the first one.
Not extendable on its own: The e-VOA cannot simply be extended. To stay beyond 30 days, apply for a residence permit or a different visa at an Indonesian immigration office before it expires.
Overstaying has consequences: Staying past the 30 days brings a daily fine. More than 60 days over can lead to detention, deportation or a ban on returning to Indonesia.
Four things to have ready before you start your application, as a Norwegian applicant.
Colour scan or photo of the full biodata page, JPG, JPEG or PNG, under 200 KB. Must be valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date.
Recent passport-size photo, JPG, JPEG or PNG, under 200 KB.
Norwegian-issued cards work if they have 3D Secure and are open to international payments. The card does not need to be in the applicant's name.
A printed or digital copy of a ticket out of Indonesia. An immigration officer can ask to see it on arrival.
Processing takes 7–10 business days. Enter your arrival date and we'll work backwards.

Is your Norwegian passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date?
Will you enter through one of the named e-VOA airports, seaports or land crossings?
Are you travelling for tourism, business meetings, government visits, goods purchasing or transit?
Are you travelling on a standard Norwegian national passport, not an emergency, temporary or alien travel document?

Answer all four
Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.
Before you apply
Check your passport and route
Confirm your Norwegian passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and that you will land at an e-VOA airport, seaport or land crossing.
Prepare your documents
Scan your passport's biodata page and get a passport-style photo ready, both under 200 KB in JPG, JPEG or PNG. Have a Norwegian Mastercard, Visa or JCB card with 3D Secure ready.
On the official portal
Register an account
Create an account on the official e-Visa website and activate it from the verification email within one hour.
Complete the application
Sign in, choose the e-VOA, enter your arrival details and Indonesian address, then upload your passport scan and photo.
Pay the fee
Pay with your Norwegian card within 120 minutes of starting, or you must submit the application again.
Download the e-VOA
Once approved, download the e-VOA from your account. A copy is also emailed to you.
After you apply
Carry a copy on arrival
Keep a soft or hard copy of the e-VOA with your passport. An immigration officer can still refuse entry without giving a reason.
Submit the arrival card
Complete the All Indonesia Arrival Card online within 3 days before landing and keep the QR code to show at the border.
Track or extend if needed
Check your application's status with the official tracking tool, or visit an immigration office before day 30 if you need to stay longer.

No separate embassy visa is needed for most trips. Norway is on the e-VOA list, so you apply online before flying instead.
Yes. Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and several Bali seaports, such as Benoa, are on the list of e-VOA entry points.
Up to 30 days from your arrival date, on a single entry. It is not extendable on its own; a residence permit is needed to stay longer.
Yes, as long as it is a Mastercard, Visa or JCB card with 3D Secure enabled and open to international payments.
Yes. Every traveller, including e-VOA holders, submits the Arrival Card online within 3 days before landing and shows the QR code at the border.
There is no refund. Check that your documents match the format rules and that every detail matches your passport exactly, then submit a new application with time to spare.
No. It only works at the named international airports, seaports and land crossings. Arriving elsewhere means the e-VOA does not apply.

Type C and F sockets are used both at home and in Indonesia, so your own plugs fit.

Same as Norway — phones, laptops and shavers work with only an adapter, no converter.
Pack: nothing special — your type C and F plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Getting around
Indonesia is an archipelago, so domestic flights and ferries link the islands, while ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab are the easiest way to get around cities. Traffic in Jakarta and Bali can be heavy, so allow extra time.
Health
Tap water is not safe to drink; use bottled or boiled water. Dengue occurs, so use repellent. Malaria risk exists in rural eastern Indonesia, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra, but not Jakarta or Bali's resorts; check with a doctor first.
Customs and etiquette
Dress modestly at temples and mosques, and remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. Indonesia is majority Muslim, so be considerate around prayer times and during Ramadan, especially outside Bali.
Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
Carry cash outside big cities
Cards are mainly accepted in bigger cities and tourist spots like Jakarta and Bali. Many smaller businesses, warungs and markets are cash only, so keep rupiah on hand.
Use ATMs for local currency
ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas. Always choose to be charged in rupiah, not your home currency, to avoid a poor dynamic-conversion rate. Withdrawal limits are often around 2.5-3 million rupiah per transaction.
Exchange only at licensed counters
Change cash at banks or licensed money changers, not informal street counters, to avoid short-changing and counterfeit notes.
