Luxembourg is one of the European passports that can apply online for the e-VOA. It gives a single entry and a 30-day stay for tourism, business meetings, government visits or transit.

Travellers who need more than 30 days, multiple entries, or a purpose the e-VOA does not cover must apply at an Indonesian embassy or consulate before travelling.

The 30-day rule, and what it does not mean

An Indonesian e-VOA lets a Luxembourg passport holder stay up to 30 days from the date of arrival, on a single entry. It is not renewable past that date without switching to another permit.

E-Visa On Arrival: 30 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

21 of 30 days

1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • One entry only: The e-VOA covers a single entry. Leaving Indonesia and coming back needs a new e-VOA, even if the first one has not expired.

  • 30 days means 30 days: The count starts on the day you arrive, not the day the e-VOA is approved. It cannot be stretched by applying early.

  • No simple extension: Indonesia does not let an e-VOA or visa-free stay be extended. Staying longer needs a residence permit or different visa arranged at an immigration office before the 30 days end.

  • Overstaying has real consequences: Going over the 30 days brings a daily fine, and more than 60 days overstay can lead to detention, deportation or a future travel ban.

Your document checklist

Four things to have ready before you start your application, as a Luxembourgish applicant.

  • Passport biodata page

Colour scan or photo of the full biodata page, JPG, JPEG or PNG, maximum 200 KB. Valid for at least 6 months from arrival.

  • Passport-style photograph

Recent passport-size photo, JPG, JPEG or PNG, maximum 200 KB.

  • Mastercard, Visa or JCB card

Needs 3D Secure enabled and international transactions allowed. Most Luxembourg bank cards qualify; check this with your bank first. Card need not be in your own name.

  • Return or onward ticket

A printed or digital copy of a return or connecting ticket out of Indonesia; an immigration officer can ask to see it on arrival.

When should you apply?

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Is your Luxembourg passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date?

  2. Will you land or dock at one of the named international airports, seaports or land crossings?

  3. Do you have a return or onward ticket out of Indonesia?

  4. Is your stay 30 days or less, with no plan to work or live in Indonesia?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

    Check your passport and route

Confirm your Luxembourg passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, and that you will land at an airport, seaport or land crossing on the official list.

  2. 2

    Prepare your documents

Scan your passport biodata page and prepare a passport-style photo, both under 200 KB in JPG, JPEG or PNG. Have a Mastercard, Visa or JCB card with 3D Secure ready.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Register an account

Create an account on the official e-Visa website, then activate it from the verification email within one hour.

  2. 4

    Complete the application

Sign in, choose the e-VOA, enter your arrival details and Indonesian address, and upload your passport scan and photo.

  3. 5

    Pay the fee

Pay online by Mastercard, Visa or JCB within 120 minutes of starting, or the application must be submitted again.

  4. 6

    Download the e-VOA

Once approved, download the e-VOA from your account. A copy is also emailed to you.

After you apply

  1. 7

Submit the All Indonesia Arrival Card

Within 3 days before arrival, complete this separate online form to get the QR code immigration checks at the border.

  2. 8

    Carry a copy on arrival

Keep a soft or hard copy of the e-VOA with your passport. An immigration officer can still refuse entry without giving a reason.

  3. 9

    Track or extend if needed

Check progress with the official tracking tool, or visit an immigration office before the 30 days end if you need to stay longer.

Questions Luxembourgish travellers actually ask

Yes. Luxembourg passport holders can apply online for the e-VOA before flying, for stays of up to 30 days. There is no visa-free entry for Luxembourg passports.

No. The e-VOA and all Indonesian entry routes require a valid national passport, not an ID card.

Immigration accepts applications up to 14 days before travel. Applying about a week ahead gives time to fix a rejected document and resubmit.

Most Mastercard, Visa or JCB cards issued in Luxembourg work, as long as 3D Secure is switched on and the card allows international transactions. Check this with your bank before applying.

Only if that airport, seaport or land crossing is on the official entry point list. Arriving elsewhere means the e-VOA does not apply.

No. It covers tourism, business meetings, government visits, goods purchasing and transit. Working needs a different visa from an Indonesian embassy or consulate.

The e-VOA cannot be extended. You would need to apply for a residence permit or another visa at an Indonesian immigration office before the 30 days run out.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Luxembourgish plug fits. Here's what to expect.

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type F

    Two round pins · 16 A

Type C

Type C and F sockets are used both at home and in Indonesia, so your own plugs fit.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Same as Luxembourg — phones, laptops and shavers work with only an adapter, no converter.

Pack: nothing special — your type C and F plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Indonesia drives on the left — the opposite of home

Compare traffic side:

Indonesia · left-hand traffic — the opposite of Luxembourg

  • Getting around

Indonesia is an archipelago, so domestic flights and ferries link the islands, while ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab are the easiest way to get around cities. Traffic in Jakarta and Bali can be heavy, so allow extra time.

  • Health

Tap water is not safe to drink; use bottled or boiled water. Dengue occurs, so use repellent. Malaria risk exists in rural eastern Indonesia, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra, but not Jakarta or Bali's resorts; check with a doctor first.

  • Customs and etiquette

Dress modestly at temples and mosques, and remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. Indonesia is majority Muslim, so be considerate around prayer times and during Ramadan, especially outside Bali.

Indonesian Rupiahs, cash and cards

Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

Rp

€1 ≈ Rp17,561 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old

  • Carry cash outside big cities

Cards are mainly accepted in bigger cities and tourist spots like Jakarta and Bali. Many smaller businesses, warungs and markets are cash only, so keep rupiah on hand.

  • Use ATMs for local currency

ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas. Always choose to be charged in rupiah, not your home currency, to avoid a poor dynamic-conversion rate. Withdrawal limits are often around 2.5-3 million rupiah per transaction.

  • Exchange only at licensed counters

Change cash at banks or licensed money changers, not informal street counters, to avoid short-changing and counterfeit notes.
