Most Irish travellers
Ireland is covered by Indonesia's e-VOA list. Apply online before flying for a single-entry, 30-day stay for tourism, business meetings, government visits or transit.
Longer stays or other purposes
Irish citizens who need to stay longer than 30 days, work, or do not fit the e-VOA purposes must apply at an Indonesian embassy or consulate before travelling.

The e-VOA lets Irish citizens stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days from arrival, on a single entry. It is not extendable, so a longer trip needs a different permit arranged in advance.
E-Visa On Arrival: 30 days per visit.
Arrive 1 March
21 of 30 days
1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.
30 days means 30 days: The clock starts on the day you arrive and runs for 30 calendar days, whatever time you land. It does not reset if you leave and come back; a new entry needs a new e-VOA.
Single entry only: The e-VOA covers one entry into Indonesia. Irish travellers planning a side trip to another country and back need a fresh e-VOA for the return, or a multiple-entry visa from an embassy.
No extension on the e-VOA itself: You cannot extend an e-VOA at an immigration office. To stay past 30 days you must apply for a residence permit or another visa type before the e-VOA expires.
Overstaying has real consequences: Staying past the 30 days brings a daily fine. More than 60 days over can lead to detention, deportation or a ban on returning to Indonesia.
Four things to have ready before you start your application, as an Irish applicant.
Colour scan or photo of the full biodata page, JPG, JPEG or PNG, maximum 200 KB. Must be valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date.
Recent passport-size photo, JPG, JPEG or PNG, maximum 200 KB.
Must have 3D Secure enabled and accept international transactions. Irish-issued cards work if they meet these conditions; the card does not need to be in the applicant's own name.
A printed or digital copy of a return or connecting ticket out of Indonesia; an immigration officer can ask to see it on arrival.
Processing takes 7–10 business days. Enter your arrival date and we'll work backwards.

Government advice is to apply at least 48 hours before departure. Applying about a week out leaves room to fix a rejected photo or document and resubmit.
Is your trip 30 days or shorter?
Will your passport still be valid for at least 6 months after you arrive?
Will you arrive at one of the named airports, seaports or land crossings on the official list?
Do you hold an ordinary Irish passport, not a laissez-passer or emergency travel document?

Answer all four
Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.
Before you apply
Check your passport validity
Make sure your Irish passport is valid for at least 6 months from your planned arrival date in Indonesia.
Scan your documents
Prepare a colour scan of your passport biodata page and a recent passport-style photo, both under 200 KB, in JPG, JPEG or PNG.
Have a payment card ready
Use a Mastercard, Visa or JCB card with 3D Secure enabled and open to international payments. Irish bank cards normally meet these conditions.
On the official portal
Register an account
Create an account on the official e-Visa website and activate it from the verification email within one hour.
Complete the application
Sign in, select the e-VOA, enter your arrival details and your address in Indonesia, and upload your documents.
Pay the fee
Pay online with your card within 120 minutes of starting, or you must submit the application again.
Download the visa
Once approved, download the e-VOA from your account. A copy is also emailed to you.
After you apply
Submit the arrival card
Within 3 days before you arrive, complete the All Indonesia Arrival Card online and keep the QR code you receive by email.
Carry a copy on arrival
Keep a soft or hard copy of your e-VOA with your passport. An immigration officer can still refuse entry without giving a reason.
Track or extend if needed
Check your application status on the official tracking tool, or apply for a residence permit at an immigration office if you need to stay longer.

No. The e-VOA must be bought online before you fly. There is no walk-up visa counter for it at the airport; you only show the approved e-VOA and your arrival card on landing.
Yes, the same e-VOA rule applies across Indonesia, including Bali. Ngurah Rai airport and several Bali seaports are on the official list of entry points that accept it.
You can pay with a Mastercard, Visa or JCB card, debit or credit, as long as it has 3D Secure enabled and allows international payments. Check this with your bank before applying.
The official guidance does not set a blank page requirement for the e-VOA. The main passport rule is 6 months of validity remaining from your arrival date.
No. Ireland is covered by the e-VOA, not the shorter visa-free list, which is mostly ASEAN nationalities and a few others. Irish travellers still apply online before flying.
You can correct the issue, such as a wrong photo format or file size, and submit a new application. There is no fee refund for a rejected or unused application.
Yes. The e-VOA covers tourism, business meetings, government visits, goods purchasing and transit. Paid work or long-term assignments need a different visa.

Getting around
Indonesia is an archipelago, so domestic flights and ferries link the islands, while ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab are the easiest way to get around cities. Traffic in Jakarta and Bali can be heavy, so allow extra time.
Health
Tap water is not safe to drink; use bottled or boiled water. Dengue occurs, so use repellent. Malaria risk exists in rural eastern Indonesia, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra, but not Jakarta or Bali's resorts; check with a doctor first.
Customs and etiquette
Dress modestly at temples and mosques, and remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. Indonesia is majority Muslim, so be considerate around prayer times and during Ramadan, especially outside Bali.
Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
€1 ≈ Rp17,561 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old
Carry cash outside big cities
Cards are mainly accepted in bigger cities and tourist spots like Jakarta and Bali. Many smaller businesses, warungs and markets are cash only, so keep rupiah on hand.
Use ATMs for local currency
ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas. Always choose to be charged in rupiah, not your home currency, to avoid a poor dynamic-conversion rate. Withdrawal limits are often around 2.5-3 million rupiah per transaction.
Exchange only at licensed counters
Change cash at banks or licensed money changers, not informal street counters, to avoid short-changing and counterfeit notes.
