The 30-day rule, and what it does not mean

A Cambodia e-visa or visa on arrival lets a Luxembourg passport holder stay 30 days from the date of entry. This can be extended once, for a further 30 days, at Cambodia's immigration department.

Tourist: 30 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

21 of 30 days

1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • 30 days means 30 days: The clock starts on the day you enter, not the day the visa was issued. Plan your return flight inside this window unless you extend.

  • One extension only: Tourist visas can be extended once for 30 more days at the immigration department. There is no further extension for tourist stays after that.

  • Overstaying costs money: Staying past your visa or extension without leaving triggers a daily fine, paid in cash when you exit the country.

  • Visa validity is not stay length: The e-visa must be used to enter within 3 months of issue. That entry window is separate from the 30-day stay you get once you arrive.

Your document checklist

Seven things to have ready before you start your application, as a Luxembourgish applicant.

  • Passport

Valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least one blank visa page. A Luxembourg biometric passport meets this as long as it has enough validity left.

  • Passport-style photo

A recent colour photo, uploaded as JPEG or PNG for the e-visa. A standard Luxembourg passport photo works; just check it is not cropped or outdated.

  • Onward or return ticket

A return or onward flight ticket can be requested at the border.

  • Accommodation details

A hotel booking or host address, sometimes asked for at check-in.

  • e-Arrival QR code

Generated after completing the free Cambodia e-Arrival form online within 7 days of arrival. Not a visa, but checked alongside it.

Only for some visa types

  • Visa application form

Only if Applying by e-visa. Completed online at evisa.gov.kh. Enter your details exactly as printed on your Luxembourg passport.
  • Payment card

Only if Applying by e-visa. A Luxembourg-issued debit or credit card works for the online e-visa fee, charged in US dollars and converted by your bank from euros.

When should you apply?

Processing takes 3–5 business days. Enter your arrival date and we'll work backwards.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Are you travelling on an ordinary Luxembourg passport valid for at least 6 months after you arrive?

  2. Will you enter through one of Cambodia's 3 international airports or the 2 listed open land crossings?

  3. Is your trip for tourism or ordinary business, not study, work or long-term residence?

  4. Can you pay the visa fee online by card and upload a digital passport photo?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

Check your passport meets the rules

Make sure your Luxembourg passport has at least 6 months' validity left from your arrival date and one blank page.

  2. 2

    Get a digital passport photo

Have a recent colour passport-style photo ready as a JPEG or PNG to upload.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Apply on evisa.gov.kh

Fill in the online form with your details exactly as on your Luxembourg passport, upload your photo and passport bio page, and pay the fee by card.

Only use evisa.gov.kh. Other sites charge more for the same service.

  2. 4

Check your status and download the e-visa

Use the check-and-change tool with your application reference once approved, then download and print the PDF to carry with your passport.

Approval usually takes about 3 working days.

After you apply

  1. 5

    Submit the Cambodia e-Arrival form

Complete this free form no more than 7 days before you land and save the QR code it gives you.

This is separate from your visa and is required for every traveller.

  2. 6

    Present everything on arrival

Show your printed e-visa, your Luxembourg passport, and your e-Arrival QR code to the immigration officer.

Questions Luxembourgish travellers actually ask

Yes. Luxembourg passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Cambodia's three international airports and the two open land crossings, paid in cash in clean US dollar notes.

No extra pages beyond the standard rule. You need at least one blank visa page and 6 months' validity from your arrival date, the same as other nationalities.

The online form takes international card payments, charged in US dollars. Your Luxembourg bank will convert this from euros, so check if it adds a foreign transaction fee.

Luxembourg does not have a Cambodian embassy, so applicants normally use the e-visa or visa on arrival rather than an in-person embassy visa.

Yes. The e-Arrival form is a separate, free declaration that every traveller, including Cambodian citizens, must submit online within 7 days of arrival.

The fee is not refunded. Check the reason, fix the form or photo, and resubmit with enough time before you fly.

Yes. The tourist e-visa and visa on arrival can both be extended once for 30 more days at Cambodia's immigration department, with no nationality-specific rule for Luxembourg.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Luxembourgish plug fits. Here's what to expect.

  • Type A

    Two flat pins

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type C

Type C is used both at home and in Cambodia, so your own plugs fit — though you may meet the other types too.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Same as Luxembourg — phones, laptops and shavers work with only an adapter, no converter.

Pack: nothing special — your type C plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Cambodia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Cambodia · right-hand traffic — same as Luxembourg

  • Getting around

Tuk-tuks, ride-hailing apps and hired cars with a driver are the easiest way to get around Cambodian towns and cities. Roads between provinces can be rough, and self-driving a scooter needs care and caution.

  • Health precautions

Tap water isn't safe to drink; stick to bottled or filtered water. Use mosquito repellent, since dengue is present, and check recommended vaccinations with a travel clinic before you go.

  • Respect local customs

Remove your shoes and hat before entering temples and homes, dress modestly at religious sites, and avoid touching anyone's head. Public displays of affection are frowned on.

Cambodian Riels, cash and cards

Cambodia uses the Cambodian Riel (KHR).

  • US dollars are everyday cash

Cambodia runs on both US dollars and riel side by side. Larger notes and most prices are quoted in dollars; riel is used mainly for small change.

  • ATMs are easy to find

ATMs in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other towns dispense US dollars and accept most foreign cards, usually for a withdrawal fee. Carry cash for rural areas and land borders.

  • Cards work in cities, cash elsewhere

Hotels, bigger restaurants and shops take cards, but markets, tuk-tuks and small guesthouses expect cash, so keep a stock of small dollar and riel notes.
