    e-Visa

Apply online at evisa.gov.kh before flying. It covers a single-entry tourist or business trip and is the easiest route for Finnish passport holders, with no embassy visit needed.

  • Backup on arrival

    Visa on arrival

Finnish citizens can also get a visa on arrival, paid in cash US dollars, at Cambodia's three international airports and the two open land borders. Useful if the e-visa isn't ready in time.

The 30-day rule, and what it does not mean

A Cambodia e-visa or visa on arrival lets a Finnish citizen stay 30 days from the date of entry. The visa's own validity, up to 3 months from issue, is only the window you have to enter the country, not your stay length.

Tourist: 30 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

21 of 30 days

1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • 30 days from entry, not issue: The 30-day stay starts when you enter Cambodia. The e-visa's 3-month validity is just how long you have to arrive before it expires unused.

  • One extension: A tourist visa can be extended once for a further 30 days at Cambodia's immigration department. Apply before the first 30 days run out.

  • Single entry only: Both the e-visa and visa on arrival allow one entry. Leaving Cambodia and coming back means getting a new visa.

  • Overstaying: Staying longer than your visa or extension allows brings a daily cash fine, paid at the airport or border when you leave Cambodia.

Your document checklist

Seven things to have ready before you start your application, as a Finnish applicant.

  • Passport

Valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least one blank visa page. A normal Finnish passport meets this easily if renewed in the last 8 years.

  • Passport-style photo

A recent colour photo, uploaded as a JPEG or PNG for the e-visa, or a printed copy for visa on arrival.

  • Onward or return ticket

A return or onward flight ticket, which can be requested at the border.

  • Accommodation details

A hotel booking or host address, sometimes asked for at check-in.

  • e-Arrival QR code

Generated after completing the free Cambodia e-Arrival form online within 7 days of arrival. Not a visa, but checked alongside it.

Only for some visa types

  • Visa application form

Only if Applying by e-visa. Completed online at evisa.gov.kh. Pay by Visa or Mastercard; Finnish-issued cards work, and the charge is in US dollars, converted from EUR by your bank.
  • Invitation or sponsor letter

Only if Business (E) visa applicants. A letter from a Cambodian company, organisation or host, on their letterhead.

When should you apply?

Processing takes 3–5 business days. Enter your arrival date and we'll work backwards.

The e-visa is valid up to 3 months from issue for entry, so applying earlier risks it expiring before you fly. Allow the usual 3 working days plus room to fix a rejected photo or form.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Is your Finnish passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with one blank page?

  2. Will you enter and exit through one of Cambodia's 3 international airports or its 2 open land borders?

  3. Does your trip fit a single 30-day stay, or 60 days with one extension?

  4. Are you making one entry into Cambodia on this trip?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

    Check your entry point

Confirm your flight or land crossing is on Cambodia's accepted list for the e-visa or visa on arrival. Land borders with Thailand are currently closed to visa entry.

  2. 2

    Gather your documents

You need a passport valid 6 months with a blank page, a recent digital passport photo, and proof of your onward travel.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Apply on evisa.gov.kh

Fill in the online form, upload your passport photo and bio page, and pay by Visa or Mastercard. The charge shows in US dollars; your Finnish bank converts it from EUR.

  2. 4

    Download your e-visa

Once approved, usually in around 3 working days, use the check-and-change tool with your reference number, then download and print the PDF e-visa.

After you apply

  1. 5

    Submit the Cambodia e-Arrival form

Complete the free e-Arrival form no more than 7 days before you land, and save the QR code it gives you.

  2. 6

Show your visa and QR code on arrival

Present your printed e-visa, your Finnish passport, and your e-Arrival QR code to the immigration officer.

Questions Finnish travellers actually ask

Yes. Visa on arrival is available at Cambodia's three international airports and the two open land borders. It's paid in cash US dollars, so bring clean, undamaged notes.

No. Finnish passport holders can use the e-visa or visa on arrival for an ordinary tourist trip. An embassy visit is only needed for the few nationalities not eligible online, or for visa types the e-visa doesn't cover.

Finland does not have a resident Cambodian embassy. Cambodia's embassy in Berlin covers consular matters for several Nordic countries, including Finland.

Yes. The official portal accepts Visa and Mastercard. The fee is charged in US dollars, and your Finnish bank converts it from euros at its own exchange rate.

If you're on the same flight continuing onward from Phnom Penh International Airport without leaving the transit area, no visa is needed. Any other stop or airport change needs a visa.

Not at the moment. The land crossings with Thailand are currently closed to visa entry due to a border dispute, so plan to fly in or use the open borders with Laos or Vietnam instead.

The fee isn't refunded. Check your form details, photo quality and passport validity, then reapply on evisa.gov.kh, leaving enough time before you fly to resubmit and wait for a new approval.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Finnish plug fits. Here's what to expect.

  • Type A

    Two flat pins

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type C

Type C is used both at home and in Cambodia, so your own plugs fit — though you may meet the other types too.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Same as Finland — phones, laptops and shavers work with only an adapter, no converter.

Pack: nothing special — your type C plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Cambodia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Cambodia · right-hand traffic — same as Finland

  • Getting around

Tuk-tuks, ride-hailing apps and hired cars with a driver are the easiest way to get around Cambodian towns and cities. Roads between provinces can be rough, and self-driving a scooter needs care and caution.

  • Health precautions

Tap water isn't safe to drink; stick to bottled or filtered water. Use mosquito repellent, since dengue is present, and check recommended vaccinations with a travel clinic before you go.

  • Respect local customs

Remove your shoes and hat before entering temples and homes, dress modestly at religious sites, and avoid touching anyone's head. Public displays of affection are frowned on.

Cambodian Riels, cash and cards

Cambodia uses the Cambodian Riel (KHR).

  • US dollars are everyday cash

Cambodia runs on both US dollars and riel side by side. Larger notes and most prices are quoted in dollars; riel is used mainly for small change.

  • ATMs are easy to find

ATMs in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other towns dispense US dollars and accept most foreign cards, usually for a withdrawal fee. Carry cash for rural areas and land borders.

  • Cards work in cities, cash elsewhere

Hotels, bigger restaurants and shops take cards, but markets, tuk-tuks and small guesthouses expect cash, so keep a stock of small dollar and riel notes.
