    e-Visa

Dutch passport holders can apply online at Cambodia's official e-visa portal before flying. It covers tourism and suits travellers landing at one of the three international airports or the two open land borders.

  • Arriving without an e-visa

    Visa on arrival

Dutch citizens can also get a visa on the spot at Cambodia's international airports and the same open land crossings, paid in cash in clean US dollar notes.

  • Business or long stay

    Embassy visa

For visa types the e-visa and visa on arrival don't cover, Dutch citizens can apply at the Cambodian embassy in Brussels, Belgium, since there is none in the Netherlands.

The 30-day rule, and what it does not mean

A Cambodian e-visa or visa on arrival gives Dutch citizens a single 30-day stay, counted from the day you enter. It can be extended once, for a further 30 days, at Cambodia's immigration department.

Tourist: 30 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

21 of 30 days

1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • One stay per visa: The 30 days run from entry, not from when the visa was issued. You cannot leave and re-enter on the same e-visa; it is single entry.

  • Extension needs a visit in person: To stay past 30 days, Dutch travellers apply at Cambodia's immigration department before the visa expires. This is separate from the e-visa portal.

  • Overstaying costs you at exit: Staying longer without an extension means paying a daily fine in cash when you leave the country, at the airport or land border.

  • Not a work or residence permit: The 30-day stay covers tourism and short business visits only. It does not let you work, study or settle in Cambodia.

Your document checklist

Six things to have ready before you start your application, as a Dutch applicant.

  • Passport

Valid at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with one blank visa page. The Dutch government travel advice repeats this same rule.

  • Passport-style photo

A recent colour photo as a JPEG or PNG for the e-visa portal, or a printed copy for visa on arrival.

  • Onward or return ticket

A return or onward flight ticket, which can be asked for at the border.

  • e-Arrival QR code

Generated after completing the free Cambodia e-Arrival form online within 7 days of arrival. Dutch travel advice confirms it cannot be done earlier than that.

Only for some visa types

  • Online payment card

Only if Applying for the e-visa. The e-visa portal takes payment by Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card. Dutch iDEAL is not accepted online, so use a card instead.
  • Parental consent letter

Only if Minors travelling without both parents. Dutch guidance recommends carrying a signed consent letter when a child under 18 travels with only one parent or without either parent.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Will you enter through one of Cambodia's three international airports or the two approved land borders?

  2. Is your Dutch passport valid for at least 6 months after arrival, with a blank visa page?

  3. Is your trip for tourism or a short business visit, not work, study or long-term stay?

  4. Can you pay online with a Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

Check your passport and entry point

Make sure your Dutch passport is valid 6 months beyond arrival with a blank page, and confirm your airport or land border accepts the e-visa.

  2. 2

Prepare a digital photo and card

Have a recent colour passport photo ready as a JPEG, and a Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card to pay online, since Dutch iDEAL does not work on the portal.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Apply at evisa.gov.kh

Fill in the form with your details exactly as they appear in your Dutch passport, upload your photo and bio page, and pay by card.

  2. 4

    Download your approval

Check your application status and download the PDF e-visa once approved, usually in about 3 working days.

After you apply

  1. 5

    Submit the e-Arrival form

Complete the free Cambodia e-Arrival form no more than 7 days before landing and save the QR code it gives you.

  2. 6

    Carry printed copies

Bring your printed e-visa, passport and e-Arrival QR code to show at immigration. Keep a note of the Dutch embassy in Bangkok in case you need help, since there is none in Cambodia.

Questions Dutch travellers actually ask

No. The nearest Cambodian embassy and honorary consulate are in Brussels, Belgium. For most trips you won't need them, since Dutch citizens can apply online or get a visa on arrival.

Contact the Dutch embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, which also covers Cambodia, or the honorary Dutch consuls in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for urgent matters.

No. The e-visa portal takes payment by Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card, not iDEAL. Bring a card that works for international online payments.

Yes. Children need their own passport and the same type of visa as an adult. Dutch guidance also recommends a signed consent letter if a child travels without both parents.

You can correct the details, such as a blurry photo or a name that doesn't match your passport, and submit a new application on evisa.gov.kh.

Cambodia's e-visa and visa on arrival are priced in US dollars. Your Dutch bank or card provider converts the charge to euros at its own exchange rate.

No, a Dutch driving licence is not valid in Cambodia. This is separate from your visa, so check local rules before renting a vehicle.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Dutch plug fits. Here's what to expect.

  • Type A

    Two flat pins

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type C

Type C is used both at home and in Cambodia, so your own plugs fit — though you may meet the other types too.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Same as the Netherlands — phones, laptops and shavers work with only an adapter, no converter.

Pack: nothing special — your type C plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Cambodia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Cambodia · right-hand traffic — same as Netherlands

  • Getting around

Tuk-tuks, ride-hailing apps and hired cars with a driver are the easiest way to get around Cambodian towns and cities. Roads between provinces can be rough, and self-driving a scooter needs care and caution.

  • Health precautions

Tap water isn't safe to drink; stick to bottled or filtered water. Use mosquito repellent, since dengue is present, and check recommended vaccinations with a travel clinic before you go.

  • Respect local customs

Remove your shoes and hat before entering temples and homes, dress modestly at religious sites, and avoid touching anyone's head. Public displays of affection are frowned on.

Cambodian Riels, cash and cards

Cambodia uses the Cambodian Riel (KHR).

  • US dollars are everyday cash

Cambodia runs on both US dollars and riel side by side. Larger notes and most prices are quoted in dollars; riel is used mainly for small change.

  • ATMs are easy to find

ATMs in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other towns dispense US dollars and accept most foreign cards, usually for a withdrawal fee. Carry cash for rural areas and land borders.

  • Cards work in cities, cash elsewhere

Hotels, bigger restaurants and shops take cards, but markets, tuk-tuks and small guesthouses expect cash, so keep a stock of small dollar and riel notes.
