The 30-day rule, and what it does not mean

An e-visa or visa on arrival lets Azerbaijani travellers stay in Cambodia for 30 days from the date they enter. That stay can be extended once, for a further 30 days, at Cambodia's immigration department.

Tourist: 30 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

21 of 30 days

1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • 30 days per entry: The e-visa and visa on arrival are single entry. Leaving Cambodia and coming back needs a new visa, not the same one reused.

  • The 3-month window is not the stay: An e-visa stays valid for 3 months from issue for entering Cambodia. Once you enter, the clock for your 30-day stay starts, separate from that entry window.

  • One extension only: The tourist visa can be extended once for 30 more days at the immigration department in Phnom Penh. It does not renew automatically or online.

  • Overstaying costs money at exit: Staying past your 30 (or 60) days means a daily fine, paid in cash when you leave Cambodia, not a criminal offence by itself.

Your document checklist

Six things to have ready before you start your application, as an Azerbaijani applicant.

  • Passport

Valid for at least 6 months after arrival, with one blank visa page. Damaged or heavily worn passports can be refused.

  • Passport-style photo

A recent colour photo, uploaded as JPEG or PNG for the e-visa. Old, blurry or scanned printed photos are often rejected.

  • Card for online payment

The e-visa fee is charged in US dollars by card. Azerbaijani Visa or Mastercard debit or credit cards generally work; check your bank allows foreign online charges first.

  • Onward or return ticket

A return or onward flight booking can be asked for at the border, even with an approved e-visa.

  • Accommodation details

Hotel booking confirmation or host address, sometimes checked at your hotel check-in.

  • e-Arrival QR code

Generated after the free Cambodia e-Arrival form, done within 7 days before landing. Keep it on your phone or printed with your e-visa.

When should you apply?

Processing takes 3–5 business days. Enter your arrival date and we'll work backwards.

An e-visa is valid 3 months from issue for entry, so applying earlier can mean it expires before you fly. Apply about a week ahead to allow time to fix a rejected document.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Is your trip for tourism or short business visits, not work, study or long-term stay?

  2. Will you enter through one of Cambodia's three international airports or the two open e-visa land crossings?

  3. Is your Azerbaijani passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with a blank page?

  4. Can you pay the e-visa fee online by card?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

    Check your passport and route

Make sure your Azerbaijani passport has 6 months' validity and a blank page, and decide whether to apply for the e-visa online or get a visa on arrival.

  2. 2

Prepare a digital photo and payment card

Have a recent passport-style photo ready as a JPEG or PNG, and a card that can pay a US-dollar charge online.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Apply at evisa.gov.kh

Fill in the online form with your Azerbaijani passport details, upload your photo and passport bio page, and pay by card.

Only evisa.gov.kh is official; other sites charge extra for the same service. Official page: evisa.gov.kh (opens in a new tab)

  2. 4

    Check your application status

Use the check-and-change tool on evisa.gov.kh with your reference number to see if your e-visa is approved, usually in about 3 working days.

  3. 5

    Download and print your e-visa

Save the PDF and print it to carry alongside your physical passport.

After you apply

  1. 6

    Submit the Cambodia e-Arrival form

Complete this free form no more than 7 days before you land and keep the QR code it gives you. It is separate from your visa.

  2. 7

    Show your documents on arrival

Present your printed e-visa, your passport, your return ticket if asked, and your e-Arrival QR code to the immigration officer.

Questions Azerbaijani travellers actually ask

Cambodia has no embassy in Azerbaijan, so the e-visa or a visa on arrival is the practical route for most Azerbaijani travellers. If you cannot use either, you would need to apply through a Cambodian embassy in a nearby country.

The e-visa fee is charged in US dollars online. Most internationally enabled Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards work, but check with your bank that foreign online payments are allowed before you apply.

There is no direct flight between Azerbaijan and Cambodia, so you'll transit through another country. Your Cambodia e-visa or visa on arrival only affects Cambodia; check the transit country's own entry rules separately.

No. The Thailand-Cambodia land crossings are currently closed to e-visa and visa-on-arrival entry due to a border dispute. Enter by air, or via the open crossings from Laos or Vietnam instead.

Visa fees are not refunded if an application is rejected. Check your form for mismatched names or details, use a clear passport-style photo, and reapply with corrected information.

Yes. The e-Arrival form is a free health, customs and immigration declaration, not a visa. Azerbaijani travellers still need an e-visa, visa on arrival, or embassy visa to enter.

An approved e-visa is valid for 3 months from its issue date for a single entry. Your 30-day stay only starts once you actually enter Cambodia.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Azerbaijani plug fits. Here's what to expect.

  • Type A

    Two flat pins

  • Type C

    Two round pins · 2.5 A

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type C

Type C is used both at home and in Cambodia, so your own plugs fit — though you may meet the other types too.

Voltage

230 V · 50 Hz

Against 220 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.

Pack: nothing special — your type C plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Cambodia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Cambodia · right-hand traffic — same as Azerbaijan

  • Getting around

Tuk-tuks, ride-hailing apps and hired cars with a driver are the easiest way to get around Cambodian towns and cities. Roads between provinces can be rough, and self-driving a scooter needs care and caution.

  • Health precautions

Tap water isn't safe to drink; stick to bottled or filtered water. Use mosquito repellent, since dengue is present, and check recommended vaccinations with a travel clinic before you go.

  • Respect local customs

Remove your shoes and hat before entering temples and homes, dress modestly at religious sites, and avoid touching anyone's head. Public displays of affection are frowned on.

Cambodian Riels, cash and cards

Cambodia uses the Cambodian Riel (KHR).

  • US dollars are everyday cash

Cambodia runs on both US dollars and riel side by side. Larger notes and most prices are quoted in dollars; riel is used mainly for small change.

  • ATMs are easy to find

ATMs in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other towns dispense US dollars and accept most foreign cards, usually for a withdrawal fee. Carry cash for rural areas and land borders.

  • Cards work in cities, cash elsewhere

Hotels, bigger restaurants and shops take cards, but markets, tuk-tuks and small guesthouses expect cash, so keep a stock of small dollar and riel notes.
