    e-Visa

Tajik citizens apply online on the official portal before travelling. This is the usual route and covers tourism, family visits and Umrah outside the Hajj season.

    Visa from an embassy

If the eVisa route is temporarily closed to Tajik passports, or an application does not qualify, travellers apply at the Saudi embassy or a consulate instead, with the fuller document set that route asks for.

A Tajik citizen who already holds a valid, used US, UK or Schengen visa in the same passport can instead get a visa at the Saudi airport or another entry point on arrival, without applying online first.

How long you may stay

On the tourist eVisa, a Tajik citizen may stay up to 90 days on any single visit. The eVisa itself is valid for multiple entries over one year from the date it is issued.

  • Per visit, not per year: The 90 days is a limit on each stay, not a yearly total. A traveller can leave and re-enter within the one-year validity, each time staying up to 90 days.

  • Not an automatic right of entry: Holding the eVisa does not guarantee entry. The immigration officer at the border decides on the day, based on the passport and conditions met on arrival.

  • Same passport required: The eVisa is tied to the passport used in the application. Arriving on a different or renewed passport means the eVisa no longer matches it.

  • No extension on the tourist eVisa: The tourist eVisa is for short stays. Anyone who needs longer than 90 days should look at a different visa type, not an extension of the tourist eVisa.

Your document checklist

Seven things to have ready before you start your application, as a Tajik applicant.

  • Passport

Valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. The same passport used to apply must be the one presented at the Saudi border.

  • Digital photo

200 x 200 pixels, 5 to 100 KB, plain white background, no other people or objects, face filling 70 to 80 percent of the frame, taken within the last 6 months.

  • Valid email address

Used to create the portal account and to receive the issued eVisa as an attachment.

  • International payment card

The portal charges in Saudi riyals with VAT added at checkout. Use a card that can be charged in a foreign currency, since a domestic Tajik somoni card may be declined online.

Only for some visa types

  • Return or onward ticket

Only if Embassy route applicants. Not asked for on the eVisa route, but usually requested if applying at a Saudi embassy instead, for example during a period when the eVisa route is paused for Tajik passports.
  • Proof of accommodation

Only if Embassy route applicants. Hotel booking or invitation letter showing where the applicant will stay. Not asked for on the eVisa route, but usually requested at an embassy.
  • Proof of funds

Only if Embassy route applicants. A recent bank statement or similar evidence of funds for the stay. Asked for at an embassy, not on the eVisa route.

No official time limit was found. Tajikistan's eVisa access was paused for weeks in 2025, so applying well ahead leaves time to switch to the embassy route if needed.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Is your trip for tourism, leisure, visiting family, or Umrah outside the Hajj season?

  2. Does your passport have at least 6 months of validity left from your entry date?

  3. Are you 18 or over, or travelling with a guardian aged 18 or over?

  4. Does the Saudi eVisa portal currently show Tajikistan on its eligible country list?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

    Check Tajikistan is currently eVisa-eligible

Confirm on the official portal that Tajikistan is still on the eVisa list before relying on it, since access for this passport has been paused before.

  2. 2

    Prepare your documents

Have your passport valid for at least 6 months, a digital photo meeting the official specification, a working email address and an international payment card ready.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Create an account

Register on the official eVisa portal with your email address and verify it.

  2. 4

    Complete the application

Enter your passport and personal details exactly as they appear in your passport, upload the photo, and answer the eligibility questions.

  3. 5

    Pay the government fee

Pay online using an international payment card. VAT is added automatically at checkout.

A domestic Tajik somoni card may not be accepted; use a card billed in a foreign currency.

After you apply

  1. 6

    Receive the eVisa by email

If approved, the eVisa arrives as an email attachment. Save a printed or digital copy.

  2. 7

    Travel on the same passport

Arrive in Saudi Arabia on the same passport used in the application. Immigration captures biometric details on entry.

Questions Tajik travellers actually ask

Usually, yes. Tajikistan is normally on the eVisa eligible list, but its access was paused for about six weeks in 2025 before being restored. Check the official portal before you rely on this route.

Apply at the nearest Saudi embassy or consulate instead. That route usually asks for extra documents, such as proof of funds, accommodation and a return ticket.

The portal charges in Saudi riyals with VAT added. A card that can be billed internationally is the safer choice, since a purely domestic somoni card may not go through.

No letter of invitation is asked for on the eVisa route. It may be asked for if you apply at an embassy instead.

Yes. The tourist eVisa can be used for Umrah outside the Hajj season, the same as for other eligible nationalities.

No. The eVisa is applied for online on the official Saudi portal. The Saudi embassy in Dushanbe only handles the embassy-route visa and announcements about eVisa access.

The destination guide notes that permanent residents of the US, UK, EU or GCC can use the visa on arrival route. This is based on the residence country, not the Tajik passport itself, so check the conditions for that route carefully.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Tajik plug won't fit. Here's what will.

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type G

Saudi Arabia uses type G sockets and your plugs are type C and F. A C-to-G adapter works for the whole trip.

Voltage

230 V · 60 Hz

Against 220 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.

Pack: one type G adapter and a small power strip — hotel rooms rarely have more than two sockets.

Saudi Arabia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Saudi Arabia · right-hand traffic — same as Tajikistan

  • Getting around

Riyadh has a metro and bus network; Jeddah and other cities rely on taxis and ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem. Car hire is easy and common for trips between cities and to sites like AlUla.

  • Heat and health

Summers are extremely hot, with daytime highs above 40C from May to September. Carry water, limit time outdoors at midday, and use sun protection, especially away from the coast.

  • Dress and etiquette

Modest dress is expected for everyone in public: shoulders and knees covered. Alcohol is illegal. Public life pauses briefly at prayer times, when some shops and restaurants close for a short while.

Saudi Riyals, cash and cards

Saudi Arabia uses the Saudi Riyal (SAR).

  • Cards work almost everywhere

Bank cards and mobile payments are accepted in most shops, hotels and restaurants in cities, so carrying large amounts of cash is rarely necessary.

  • Keep small notes for cash tips

Riyal notes are still useful for tipping porters, valets and drivers, and for small vendors and traditional markets that prefer cash.

  • ATMs are widely available

Cash machines are common in airports, malls and city centres and accept most international bank cards, but can be scarcer in small towns and rural areas.
