Finland is on Saudi Arabia's e-Visa eligible list, so most Finnish citizens apply online before flying, rather than at an embassy or on arrival.

  • Used Schengen visa

    Visa on arrival

A Finnish passport already qualifies for the e-Visa. This route mainly suits travellers who hold a valid, already-used US, UK or Schengen visa and prefer to get a visa at the border instead.

  • Diplomatic passports

    Embassy visa

Finnish diplomatic, special or official passport holders cannot use the e-Visa and must apply through diplomatic channels or a Saudi embassy instead.

The 90-day rule, and what it does not mean

A Finnish passport holder with an eVisa can stay in Saudi Arabia for up to 90 days on each visit. The eVisa itself is valid for multiple entries over one year from the date it is issued.

Tourist E-visa: 90 days per visit.

Arrive 1 March

63 of 90 days

1 Mar – 2 May: 63 of the 90 days this visa allows in one visit.

  • 90 days is per visit, not in total: The 90-day limit applies to a single stay. The one-year eVisa lets a Finnish traveller make several separate visits, each up to 90 days, within that year.

  • It does not guarantee entry: Holding an eVisa, or qualifying for one as a Finnish citizen, does not guarantee entry. The immigration officer at the border makes the final decision.

  • Passport validity still applies: The 90-day stay only works if the Finnish passport has at least 6 months left from the date of entry. Renew before applying if it is close to expiry.

Your document checklist

Four things to have ready before you start your application, as a Finnish applicant.

  • Passport

Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to Saudi Arabia. A Finnish passport meeting this rule qualifies for the e-Visa, and must be the one presented at the border.

  • Digital photo

200 x 200 pixels, 5 to 100 KB, plain white background, no other people or objects, face filling 70 to 80 percent of the frame, taken within the last 6 months.

  • Valid email address

Used to create the eVisa portal account and to receive the issued eVisa as an email attachment.

  • Payment card

A debit or credit card that can pay in Saudi riyals online; most Finnish bank and card provider cards work for this, but check for foreign transaction fees before paying.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Is your Finnish passport valid for at least 6 months from your entry date?

  2. Are you travelling for tourism, Umrah outside Hajj season, or to visit family?

  3. Is your trip 90 days or less?

  4. Do you hold an ordinary Finnish passport, not a diplomatic, special or official one?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

    Check your Finnish passport

Make sure it has at least 6 months of validity left from your planned entry date, and that it is the passport you will travel on.

  2. 2

    Prepare a compliant photo

Take a digital photo on a plain white background, meeting the official size and format specification, before you start the application.

On the official portal

  1. 3

Register on the official eVisa portal

Create an account with your email address and verify it on the official Saudi eVisa portal.

  2. 4

    Enter your details

Fill in your Finnish passport and personal details exactly as they appear in your passport, upload your photo, and answer the eligibility questions.

  3. 5

    Pay the government fee

Pay online by card; VAT is added at checkout. Finnish-issued cards can normally be used.

After you apply

  1. 6

    Receive the eVisa by email

If approved, the eVisa arrives as an email attachment. Save a printed and a digital copy to show on arrival.

  2. 7

    Travel on the same passport

Enter Saudi Arabia on the same Finnish passport used in the application. Biometric details are taken by immigration on arrival.

Questions Finnish travellers actually ask

Yes. Finland is on Saudi Arabia's e-Visa eligible list, so most Finnish citizens can apply online before flying instead of visiting an embassy.

No specific blank page rule is published for Finnish passports. The main passport requirement is at least 6 months of validity left from the date of entry.

Yes. The tourist eVisa covers Umrah outside the Hajj season, as well as tourism and family visits, for eligible passport holders including Finnish citizens.

You must travel on the same passport used in the eVisa application. If you renew your passport afterwards, you may need to reapply, since the eVisa is tied to the passport number.

No, not usually. Finnish citizens qualify for the eVisa directly, so the on-arrival route is mainly for travellers from countries not on the eVisa list who hold a valid, used US, UK or Schengen visa.

Many visitors can hire a car with a valid foreign or international driving licence, but rules vary by nationality. Check with the car hire company in Saudi Arabia before you travel.

General tourist entry does not require proof of insurance, though some transit and Umrah routes carry a mandatory medical insurance requirement. Check which route your trip uses before flying.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Finnish plug won't fit. Here's what will.

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type G

Saudi Arabia uses type G sockets and your plugs are type C and F. A C-to-G adapter works for the whole trip.

Voltage

230 V · 60 Hz

Against 230 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.

Pack: one type G adapter and a small power strip — hotel rooms rarely have more than two sockets.

Saudi Arabia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Saudi Arabia · right-hand traffic — same as Finland

  • Getting around

Riyadh has a metro and bus network; Jeddah and other cities rely on taxis and ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem. Car hire is easy and common for trips between cities and to sites like AlUla.

  • Heat and health

Summers are extremely hot, with daytime highs above 40C from May to September. Carry water, limit time outdoors at midday, and use sun protection, especially away from the coast.

  • Dress and etiquette

Modest dress is expected for everyone in public: shoulders and knees covered. Alcohol is illegal. Public life pauses briefly at prayer times, when some shops and restaurants close for a short while.

Saudi Riyals, cash and cards

Saudi Arabia uses the Saudi Riyal (SAR).

SAR

€1 ≈ SAR4 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old

  • Cards work almost everywhere

Bank cards and mobile payments are accepted in most shops, hotels and restaurants in cities, so carrying large amounts of cash is rarely necessary.

  • Keep small notes for cash tips

Riyal notes are still useful for tipping porters, valets and drivers, and for small vendors and traditional markets that prefer cash.

  • ATMs are widely available

Cash machines are common in airports, malls and city centres and accept most international bank cards, but can be scarcer in small towns and rural areas.
