How long you may stay

The Saudi e-Visa lets an Azerbaijani citizen stay up to 90 days on each visit, and the visa itself can be used for entries over one year from the date it is issued. It does not mean a continuous one-year stay, or that every visit is automatically topped up to 90 days.

  • 90 days per visit, not per year: Each stay must fit inside 90 days. Leaving and re-entering starts a new 90-day count, but the visa still expires one year after issue.

  • One year, multiple entries: The e-Visa can be used for repeated trips within its 12-month validity, as long as each individual stay stays within 90 days.

  • No work or study: The tourist e-Visa does not permit paid work, business activity or study. Those purposes need a different visa from a Saudi embassy or consulate.

  • Entry is not guaranteed: Holding a valid e-Visa does not guarantee entry. The immigration officer at the border makes the final decision on the day.

  • Overstaying: Staying beyond the permitted period breaches Saudi immigration rules. Contact the Saudi embassy in Baku, or a Saudi immigration office, before the visa or stay period runs out.

Your document checklist

Seven things to have ready before you start your application, as an Azerbaijani applicant.

  • Passport

Valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Use the same passport to apply and to travel; a different one can lead to being refused entry.

  • Digital photo

200 x 200 pixels, 5 to 100 KB, plain white background, taken in the last 6 months, no other people or objects in the frame.

  • Valid email address

Used to register on the portal and to receive the issued e-Visa as an email attachment.

  • Payment card

The government fee is charged online in Saudi riyals. Check with your Azerbaijani bank that the card allows international online payments before applying.

Only for some visa types

  • Return or onward ticket

Only if Embassy-route applicants only. Not asked for on the e-Visa route. Only needed if you must instead apply for a visa at the Saudi embassy in Baku.
  • Proof of accommodation

Only if Embassy-route applicants only. Not asked for on the e-Visa route. Only needed for an embassy application, as a hotel booking or invitation letter.
  • Proof of funds

Only if Embassy-route applicants only. Not asked for on the e-Visa route. An embassy application may ask for a recent bank statement instead.

Four questions, 20 seconds

  1. Are you travelling on an ordinary Azerbaijani passport, not a diplomatic, special or official one?

  2. Is your passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Saudi Arabia?

  3. Is your trip for tourism, leisure, visiting family, or Umrah outside the Hajj season?

  4. Are you 18 or older, or travelling with a parent or legal guardian who is applying for you?

Answer all four

Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.

The application, step by step

Before you apply

  1. 1

    Check your passport and photo

Make sure your Azerbaijani passport has at least 6 months left from your entry date, and prepare a digital photo that meets the official specification.

  2. 2

    Have a card ready

Check that your card can be used for an international online payment in Saudi riyals, since the fee is not paid in Azerbaijani manat.

On the official portal

  1. 3

    Register on the portal

Create an account on the official Saudi eVisa portal with your email address and verify it.

  2. 4

    Fill in your details

Enter your passport and personal details exactly as they appear in your Azerbaijani passport, upload your photo, and answer the eligibility questions.

Mismatched details are a common reason for refusal.

  3. 5

    Pay the fee

Pay the government fee online by card. VAT is added at checkout.

After you apply

  1. 6

    Receive the eVisa by email

Once approved, the eVisa is emailed as an attachment. Save a copy, printed or digital, to show on arrival.

  2. 7

    Travel on the same passport

Enter Saudi Arabia on the same passport used in your application. Your biometrics are captured by immigration on arrival.

Questions Azerbaijani travellers actually ask

Yes. Azerbaijan is on Saudi Arabia's e-Visa list, so most Azerbaijani citizens can apply online on the official portal instead of visiting an embassy.

No, not if you qualify for the e-Visa. The embassy route is for cases the e-Visa does not cover, such as diplomatic passports or unaccompanied minors.

The fee is charged online in Saudi riyals. Check with your bank first that your card allows international online payments, since not every local card does.

The e-Visa itself is not tied to a specific airline. Check with your airline about its own boarding requirements before you fly.

The e-Visa is linked to the passport number used in the application. If you get a new passport, you must apply for a new e-Visa on it before travelling.

The tourist e-Visa is not meant for stays over 90 days. Contact the Saudi embassy in Baku, or a Saudi immigration office, before your permitted stay runs out.

General tourist entry does not ask for separate proof of insurance, though some Umrah and transit routes carry a mandatory medical insurance requirement. Check the route you are using.

The things that make the first 48 hours easy, compared with home

Your Azerbaijani plug won't fit. Here's what will.

  • Type G

    Three flat pins · 13 A

Type G

Saudi Arabia uses type G sockets and your plugs are type C and F. A C-to-G adapter works for the whole trip.

Voltage

230 V · 60 Hz

Against 220 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.

Pack: one type G adapter and a small power strip — hotel rooms rarely have more than two sockets.

Saudi Arabia drives on the right — just like home

Compare traffic side:

Saudi Arabia · right-hand traffic — same as Azerbaijan

  • Getting around

Riyadh has a metro and bus network; Jeddah and other cities rely on taxis and ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem. Car hire is easy and common for trips between cities and to sites like AlUla.

  • Heat and health

Summers are extremely hot, with daytime highs above 40C from May to September. Carry water, limit time outdoors at midday, and use sun protection, especially away from the coast.

  • Dress and etiquette

Modest dress is expected for everyone in public: shoulders and knees covered. Alcohol is illegal. Public life pauses briefly at prayer times, when some shops and restaurants close for a short while.

Saudi Riyals, cash and cards

Saudi Arabia uses the Saudi Riyal (SAR).

SAR

₼1 ≈ SAR2.2 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old

  • Cards work almost everywhere

Bank cards and mobile payments are accepted in most shops, hotels and restaurants in cities, so carrying large amounts of cash is rarely necessary.

  • Keep small notes for cash tips

Riyal notes are still useful for tipping porters, valets and drivers, and for small vendors and traditional markets that prefer cash.

  • ATMs are widely available

Cash machines are common in airports, malls and city centres and accept most international bank cards, but can be scarcer in small towns and rural areas.
