Most Swedish travellers
Swedish citizens are on Egypt's official e-Visa list. You apply online before flying, upload your documents, pay by card, then print the approved e-Visa to show on arrival.
Sinai Red Sea resorts only
As EU passport holders, Swedish travellers heading only to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba can use the free Sinai stamp instead of the e-Visa. It does not cover the rest of Egypt.
Special or official passports
Swedish diplomatic, service or other non-ordinary passport holders cannot use the e-Visa and must apply at an Egyptian embassy or consulate before travel.

The Egypt e-Visa for Swedish citizens covers tourism and business trips. It does not change the 6-month passport validity rule, and it does not let you stay indefinitely: each entry is for a fixed stay, not an open permission to live in Egypt.
Tourist: 30 days per visit.
Arrive 1 March
21 of 30 days
1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.
Single entry e-Visa: Covers one arrival only. Swedish industry sources describe a typical stay of up to 30 days per trip, though this is not stated in words on the official portal pages we checked.
Multiple entry e-Visa: Lets you enter more than once within the visa's window, with each individual stay again limited rather than continuous. Check the exact dates on your approved e-Visa, since this is what the border will enforce.
The e-Visa is not residence: It lets you visit, not settle. Working, studying or moving to Egypt needs a different permit from an Egyptian embassy.
Extending your stay: If you want to stay longer than your e-Visa allows, Egypt's passport and immigration offices can be asked before it expires. The destination guide covers this; it is the same process for all nationalities.
Overstaying: Leaving after your permitted stay has ended without an extension risks a fine or other problems on departure. Check your e-Visa dates before you travel.
Six things to have ready before you start your application, as a Swedish applicant.
Colour scan or photo of the personal details page. Must be valid at least 6 months from your arrival date in Egypt, with a blank page left for the entry stamp.
Recent photo on a plain white background, head and shoulders visible, no sunglasses. A standard Swedish passport photo meets this.
Your flight booking or ticket showing arrival and departure dates. A confirmed SAS, Norwegian or other airline booking is fine.
Hotel booking or the address where you are staying, covering your whole visit.
The e-Visa fee is paid online in US dollars. Most Swedish-issued Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards are accepted; check your bank allows foreign-currency card payments before applying.

The official portal sets no stated earliest or latest day to apply. Applying around 10 days ahead leaves time for processing and for fixing a rejected upload before you fly.
Are you travelling on an ordinary Swedish passport, not a diplomatic or service passport?
Does your passport have at least 6 months' validity from your arrival date, with a blank page?
Will you arrive at one of Egypt's listed e-Visa airports, seaports or land borders?
Is your trip for tourism or business, not a longer stay such as work or study?

Answer all four
Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.
Before you apply
Check your passport and route
Confirm your Swedish passport is ordinary, has at least 6 months' validity from arrival and a blank page, and that you will arrive at a listed entry point.
Gather your documents
Have your passport bio page, a digital photo, your flight booking and your hotel details ready to upload. Business or family visitors also need a supporting letter.
On the official portal
Create an account
Register on the official Egypt e-Visa Portal with your email address and confirm the registration.
Complete the application
Sign in, select the visa type, and fill in your personal, passport and travel details exactly as they appear on your Swedish passport.
Pay the fee
Pay online with a Visa, Mastercard or other accepted debit or credit card. Check your Swedish bank allows the foreign-currency charge.
After you apply
Download your e-Visa
Once approved, you'll get an email. Sign back in to your account to download and print the e-Visa.
Present it on arrival
Show the printed e-Visa with your Swedish passport to the immigration officer at your port of entry.

Yes. Sweden is on the official e-Visa eligible list, so most Swedish travellers apply online through the Egypt e-Visa Portal instead of visiting an embassy.
The official portal takes Visa, Mastercard and other debit or credit cards. The charge is in US dollars, so check with your Swedish bank that it allows foreign-currency card payments before you apply.
If you are only visiting Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba, Sweden's EU status means you can use the free Sinai-only entry stamp instead of applying for an e-Visa. It does not cover travel to the rest of Egypt, including Cairo or Luxor.
You need at least one blank page for the entry stamp, plus at least 6 months' validity from your arrival date. The official portal and entry rules apply this to every nationality.
Your e-Visa may not be accepted. Egypt only accepts e-Visas at its listed airports, seaports and land borders, so check your arrival point before booking flights from Sweden.
Each traveller, including children, needs their own e-Visa application linked to their own passport. There isn't a joint family application on the official portal.
The e-Visa is tied to the passport number you applied with. If you get a new Swedish passport before travelling, you need to reapply using the new passport's details.

Type C and F sockets are used both at home and in Egypt, so your own plugs fit.

Against 230 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.
Pack: nothing special — your type C and F plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Getting around
Cairo, Luxor and Aswan are linked by domestic flights, sleeper and day trains, and Nile cruises. Within cities, ride-hailing apps are widely used and generally more reliable than hailing a taxi on the street.
Health and water
Drink bottled or filtered water rather than tap water, and carry sun protection and rehydration salts, especially outside the Cairo winter. Discuss standard travel vaccinations with a doctor before you go.
Dress and etiquette
Dress modestly at mosques, churches and other religious sites, covering shoulders and knees. Ask before photographing people, and avoid photographing military or police sites.
Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound (EGP).
Cards and ATMs
ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas and mostly accept international cards. Hotels, larger shops and restaurants take cards, but smaller vendors, taxis and markets usually want cash.
Carry small notes
Keep a supply of small EGP notes for tipping (locally called baksheesh), taxis, and small purchases, since change can be hard to come by.
Exchange sensibly
Exchange money at banks, official exchange bureaus or your hotel rather than with street changers, and keep some exchange receipts if you plan to convert leftover cash back on departure.

Sweet spot: Cairo has a hot desert climate. Winters (December to February) are mild and dry with cool evenings, spring and autumn are warm, and summer (June to August) is very hot with little rain. Most visitors prefer the cooler months from October to April.
