Germany is on Egypt's e-Visa eligible list. You register and apply on the official Egypt e-Visa Portal before flying, then print the approval to show on arrival.
Sinai Red Sea resorts only
German passport holders flying straight to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba and staying only there can get a free stamp at the border instead of an e-Visa. It does not cover the rest of Egypt.
Travel document holders
Diplomatic, service or other travel document holders cannot use the e-Visa and must apply at an Egyptian embassy or consulate in Germany before travel.

Egypt's e-Visa comes as a single-entry or multiple-entry tourism visa. The approval you download states your allowed entry window; it does not automatically mean you can stay for the full window length or come and go as you like on a single-entry visa.
Tourist: 30 days per visit.
Arrive 1 March
21 of 30 days
1 Mar – 21 Mar: 21 of the 30 days this visa allows in one visit.
Single-entry visa: Lets you enter Egypt once within the approved window. If you leave the country, even for a day trip abroad, you cannot re-enter on the same e-Visa.
Multiple-entry visa: Lets you enter and leave Egypt more than once while the visa is valid, useful if your trip includes a side trip to a neighbouring country.
Check your own approval: Your printed e-Visa shows your own validity and stay dates. Read it carefully, since these can differ between applicants.
Staying longer: If you want to stay past your e-Visa's dates, you can generally ask at a passport and immigration office in Egypt before it runs out. Overstaying without doing this risks a fine or problems leaving.
Passport rule applies throughout: Whichever visa type you hold, Egyptian border rules still ask for a passport valid at least 6 months from your arrival date, with a blank page for the stamp.
Six things to have ready before you start your application, as a German applicant.
Colour scan or photo of the personal details page. Must be valid at least 6 months from your arrival date and have a blank page. A standard German biometric passport meets this.
Recent photo on a plain white background, head and shoulders visible, no sunglasses. A photo to the German biometric passport photo standard will usually meet this.
Flight booking or ticket showing arrival and departure dates, e.g. from a German airport to Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh or Alexandria.
Hotel booking or the address of where you are staying, covering the whole length of your visit.
A Visa, Mastercard or other accepted debit or credit card. A German girocard without a Visa or Mastercard logo may not work; use a credit card instead.

The portal requires applying at least 7 days before departure and sets no earliest date. Apply once your flight and hotel are booked, with room to resubmit.
Is your German passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with a blank page for the stamp?
Are you travelling on a regular German passport, not a diplomatic, service or other travel document?
Will you arrive through one of Egypt's listed e-Visa airports, seaports or land crossings?
Is your trip limited to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba only?

Answer all four
Four quick checks of the rules that most often catch travellers out, and we'll tell you where you stand.
Before you apply
Check your passport and route
Confirm your German passport has at least 6 months of validity left from your arrival date and a blank page, and that you are flying into one of Egypt's listed e-Visa airports.
Gather your documents
Have your passport bio page, a digital photo, your flight itinerary and hotel booking ready to upload, plus a letter if you are travelling for business or a family visit.
Prepare a working card
Use a credit card or an internationally enabled debit card. A plain German girocard without a Visa or Mastercard logo may not work on the payment page.
On the official portal
Register at least 7 days before you fly
Create an account on the Egypt e-Visa Portal with your email address and confirm the registration well before your 7-day cut-off.
Complete the application
Sign in, choose the visa type, and fill in your personal, passport and travel details exactly as they appear in your German passport.
Pay online
Pay the fee with your Visa, Mastercard or other accepted card.
After you apply
Download your e-Visa
Once approved by email, sign back in to download and print the e-Visa from your account.
Show it on arrival
Present the printed e-Visa with your German passport to the immigration officer at your port of entry in Egypt.

Yes, if you are flying straight to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba and staying only there. It is free, but it does not let you travel to the rest of Egypt, so you would need the e-Visa for a wider trip.
No. Egypt's e-Visa, Sinai stamp and embassy visas are all tied to a passport. You need a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, not just a national ID card.
The portal accepts Visa, Mastercard and other debit or credit cards. A plain German girocard without one of these logos is unlikely to be accepted, so use a credit card or an internationally enabled debit card.
The portal requires you to submit your application at least 7 days before departure. Applying with more time in hand also leaves room to fix an upload if something is rejected.
No. Egypt's e-Visa is closed to holders of temporary travel documents. If you are travelling on a German temporary passport, you need to apply for a visa at an Egyptian embassy or consulate in Germany instead.
Yes. Business trips generally need a letter from your German employer alongside the usual passport, photo, itinerary and accommodation details.
You risk being refused entry even with an approved e-Visa. Renew your passport before applying, since this rule applies to every route into Egypt.

Against 230 V · 50 Hz at home. Check the label on chargers and appliances: anything marked 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz works in both.
Pack: nothing special — your type C and F plugs go straight in. A small power strip is still handy where hotel rooms have one socket.

Getting around
Cairo, Luxor and Aswan are linked by domestic flights, sleeper and day trains, and Nile cruises. Within cities, ride-hailing apps are widely used and generally more reliable than hailing a taxi on the street.
Health and water
Drink bottled or filtered water rather than tap water, and carry sun protection and rehydration salts, especially outside the Cairo winter. Discuss standard travel vaccinations with a doctor before you go.
Dress and etiquette
Dress modestly at mosques, churches and other religious sites, covering shoulders and knees. Ask before photographing people, and avoid photographing military or police sites.
Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound (EGP).
€1 ≈ E£52.4 · indicative mid-market rate, possibly a few days old
Cards and ATMs
ATMs are common in cities and tourist areas and mostly accept international cards. Hotels, larger shops and restaurants take cards, but smaller vendors, taxis and markets usually want cash.
Carry small notes
Keep a supply of small EGP notes for tipping (locally called baksheesh), taxis, and small purchases, since change can be hard to come by.
Exchange sensibly
Exchange money at banks, official exchange bureaus or your hotel rather than with street changers, and keep some exchange receipts if you plan to convert leftover cash back on departure.

Sweet spot: Cairo has a hot desert climate. Winters (December to February) are mild and dry with cool evenings, spring and autumn are warm, and summer (June to August) is very hot with little rain. Most visitors prefer the cooler months from October to April.
